Road
Trip: Everett and Paula will be flying out to Las Vegas the first week
of June for a 1300 mile drive to their home in Baja California Sur.
After spending a week there, they will be returning by pickup truck
to Rosarito Beach forty-five minutes south of San Diego. In Rosarito
a a six-foot metal crow in a nest will be installed atop the pickup
bed and they will drive cross country back to the East coast.
This will be a pre-promotional trip for the book "The Crow Flies"
scheduled for release mid October 2004.
The trip will roughly retrace a route through the heartland of the United
states. This same Route was accomplished by Everett on a motorcycle
trip made last year while writing the book.
Most of the time they will be driving interstate 40, going through the
following cities: (Phoenix, Arizona) (Albuquerque, New Mexico) (Amarillo,
Texas) (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) (Springfield, Missouri) (Indianapolis,
Indiana) (Columbus, Ohio) (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) ending in Seaside
Park, New Jersey.
The trip will take about two weeks and a posting of daily photos and
information will be available on this site.

Heading for Vegas today to put
the lovely and understanding Paula on an airplane so I can experience
the long drive across this great country once again. I am looking forward
to the solitude and hearing the rusted wheels and cogs turning around
my somewhat muddled brain. Hope to get some work done as well.
We were out of the communication
loop for a while arriving in La Paz on Sat. the phone company is closed
on the weekends so we were unable to pay our bill. It is too far to
drive into town and back since we were only going to be at our casa
for a few days. Our town was quite and surreal. All of the gringos were
long gone and we felt somewhat isolated form the "Real World."
Last night the area around the colossus metal Crow was anything but
quiet. There were parents, children, and grown men alike walking around
and making their best crow caws. As we drove the tiny Mexican villages
the sound of crow caws echoed off the walls. I have created a monster.
While driving, people stick their heads out of the window and yell then
give us the thumbs. Paula has spent much of the time hiding under the
dash board, unaccustomed to such displays of attention.
It took us two hours to weld
and support the unwieldy bird onto the pickup bed and my hands were
as dirty as they have been in over 25 years. The ungrateful black bird
seems to be aerodynamically sound and is quite comfortable in his nest,
ready for his trip east. The wings are 10 feet tall from the ground
and stick out 6 inches on each side past the rear view mirrors. I will
keep in touch, please do the same.
