Everett Applegate born August 27, 1947 in the town of Chatsworth, situated
in the southern half of New Jersey in an economically deprived area
known as "The Pine Barrens." His parents divorced when he
was only seven and was subsequently raised in the home of his paternal
grandmother. Everett's entrepreneurial career began early at the age
of nine in the blueberry fields, and then progressed into catching and
trapping animals for zoos. He advanced in his early teens to become
a concessionaire on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, N.J, and spent
his winters doing construction and running a tree trimming business.
From this Seaside base he expanded into various other enterprises, as
owner and operator of a surf shop, a waterbed store, and manufacturing
and selling jewelry. This latter business took him regularly to the
Far East and around the world.
His current business interests are pizza restaurants and commercial
real estate on the same boardwalk in Seaside Heights. In attempting
to satisfy his insatiable curiosity, Everett has spent the bulk of his
fifty odd years traveling the United States and the rest of the world
partaking in an almost uninterrupted series of adventures. Among his
numerous recreational activities, flying was his early passion, and
has in varying degrees indulged in light airplanes, ultra lights, hangliders,
sailplanes, paragliders, sky diving, and most recently, helicopters.
He has, in addition, enjoyed traveling the world windsurfing, mountain
climbing, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, bunji jumping, and scuba
diving as he crossed the United States, Mexico, and Canada many times.
While writing this book, Everett traveled solo thirty thousand miles
via motorcycle pecking away on his lap top from various motels throughout
North and South America.
A recent death in the family led Everett into a bit of introspection
and he decided to inscribe episodes and vignettes of his early years.
This led to his second book a memoir. Everett currently spends his time
with his wife and companion Paula since the late seventies, traveling
and writing about their adventures. Never far from water, his days are
divided between Miami, Florida; Seaside Park, New Jersey; Baja California
Sur.
